FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What does ChatCards do?
It analyses a WhatsApp group or one-on-one chat export on your phone and turns it into shareable award cards: The Yapper, Night Owl, Snail Mail and 20+ more. One-on-one chats get a “who carries the conversation” verdict.
Are my messages sent anywhere?
No. Your chat file is processed only on your phone; messages, names and chat statistics are never sent to us or anyone else and never uploaded to an AI.
To improve the app we process content-free anonymous usage data (Mixpanel, EU data region), and purchase data to verify your purchases (RevenueCat). To measure where installs come from we use Play Install Referrer on Android and Apple’s Ads attribution token on iPhone. The app also downloads a public settings file; that request carries no personal data. Crash reporting (Sentry, EU) is built in but currently switched off. Details: Privacy policy.
How do I export a chat on iPhone?
In WhatsApp, open the chat → tap the group or contact name at the top → scroll down → Export Chat → Without Media → pick ChatCards in the share sheet.
Not in the list? Tap More at the end of the list, or choose Save to Files and open it in ChatCards with My file is ready — pick it.
How do I export a chat on Android?
In WhatsApp, open the chat → ⋮ → More → Export chat → Without media → pick ChatCards.
“Include media” or “Without media”? I exported with media.
Without media. It’s faster, your photos are never touched, and on some Android phones ChatCards may not appear in the share list when media is included. If you included media, export the chat again without it.
It says the file doesn’t look like a WhatsApp chat.
ChatCards reads only WhatsApp’s own export (.txt or .zip); screenshots, PDFs, Telegram or Instagram exports won’t work. Export the chat again without media. Still stuck? Use Report a problem in the app to send the error code; you don’t need to send your chat. What the codes mean: Error codes.
Is it free?
Every card is open in your first real analysis, and Try a sample chat is always fully open. In later analyses the first two cards stay open; unlock the rest with a chat or with Unlimited.
3 chats or lifetime Unlimited, both one-time payments: no subscription, no free trial. The price in your currency is shown in the store (in Türkiye: TRY 49.99 for 3 chats, TRY 149.99 for Unlimited).
“It said free, now it wants money.”
Your first real analysis is the free one, and every card in it is open. Try a sample chat doesn’t use it up, and analysing the same file again doesn’t use a new one. From the second chat on, the first two cards are open and the rest unlock with a chat or with Unlimited. From version 1.1, “Your group’s 2026” mode also gives everyone one extra analysis (below).
What is “Your group’s 2026” mode?
Before an analysis you pick a period on the home screen: Your group’s 2026 counts only messages written in 2026 and builds a year-in-review deck; All time looks at the whole chat. If 2026 doesn’t have enough messages, the analysis falls back to all time.
In this mode everyone gets one extra analysis for one group. It goes to the group of your first 2026 analysis; that group’s 2026 analyses stay open, and another group’s 2026 analysis needs a chat or Unlimited. (Arrives with version 1.1 of the app.)
How do I restore a purchase or cancel an earlier subscription?
Unlimited belongs to your store account. On a new phone, or after reinstalling, tap Settings → Restore purchase with the same Apple or Google account.
Chats are kept only on this phone and never expire. Deleting the app also deletes unused chats, and the stores can’t restore them.
If you bought a monthly or yearly subscription before, it keeps renewing until you cancel it. When the app sees your running subscription on a phone, it turns on Unlimited permanently on that phone. To stop future payments, cancel the subscription. iPhone: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → ChatCards → Cancel Subscription. Android: Google Play → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → ChatCards → Cancel subscription. In the app: Settings → Manage subscription. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel it.
Can I get a refund?
Apple or Google took the payment, so they review refunds. iPhone: reportaproblem.apple.com or Settings → Request a refund in the app. Android: within 48 hours through Google Play; after that, email karamustafaemre@gmail.com with your order number (starts with GPA.).
How do I delete my data?
Your chat never reaches us, so we hold no chat data. On your phone: Settings → Delete analysis history. To have anonymous usage data deleted, tap Settings → Report a problem in the app, write “Data deletion” in the subject and send it; the anonymous ID in the email lets us find your records. Details: Deleting your data.
iPhone vs Android?
What does the verdict measure?
Seven behaviours: who starts the chat, who replies faster, who asks questions, who sends most messages, heart emojis, message length and night messages. It doesn’t measure feelings or intentions. Read receipts aren’t in the export, so there’s no “seen and ignored” result.
Will my friends’ names or numbers show when I share?
From version 1.1, phone numbers of unsaved contacts are hidden on cards (for example +90 ••• ••• •• 67). When you share one-on-one cards, the other person’s name becomes an initial by default. Group cards show names; make sure your group is fine with it before you post.
Which languages?
English (including English (India) exports with Indian date formats), Turkish, Portuguese and Hindi chats. The interface is in English and Turkish; version 1.1 adds Portuguese (Brazil) and Hindi.
Are you connected to WhatsApp?
No. ChatCards is independent and not affiliated with WhatsApp or Meta. It only reads the file you create with WhatsApp’s own “Export chat”.
Error codes
When an analysis fails, the error screen shows a small code such as CC-E04. Report a problem puts it in the email subject for you. The code carries nothing about your chat.
| Code | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| CC-E01 | The file couldn’t be read: it isn’t a .txt or .zip, or the app couldn’t access it. | Pick the .txt or .zip WhatsApp created. If you pick it from Files, make sure it’s downloaded to the phone. |
| CC-E02 | The ZIP couldn’t be opened: it’s damaged or larger than expected. | Export the chat again without media and pick the new file. |
| CC-E03 | There’s no chat text (.txt) inside the ZIP. | Pick the zip from WhatsApp unchanged, or export the chat again without media. |
| CC-E04 | The file was read, but no line matches the WhatsApp chat format. | Only WhatsApp’s own export works; screenshots, PDFs, Telegram exports or edited files don’t. Export again; if it still fails, use Report a problem. |
| CC-E05 | The chat has no messages. | Check that you exported the right chat. |
| CC-E06 | There are messages, but none from people to analyse (for example only system messages). | Export a chat with real conversation; if it still fails, use Report a problem. |
| CC-E07 | The file is too large to process. | Export the chat without media. |
| CC-E99 | An unexpected error. | Close the app and try again. If it keeps happening, send the code with Report a problem. |
| CC-S00 | Not an error: a general report from Settings → Report a problem. The email also includes an anonymous ID for data deletion requests. | Describe what happened in a sentence or two; don’t attach your chat. |
